The selected candidates spend the first six months participating in theory and practice-oriented seminars. The next nine months are spent in various Deutsche Welle editorial departments in Bonn, Berlin, and one of the organization's foreign bureaus in Brussels, Washington or Moscow. Trainees spend an additional month at Deutschlandradio.

For you, journalism is more than a profession. It's a passion. You're curious and open-minded, independent and full of ideas. You've gathered initial journalism experience and have an undergraduate degree or equivalent professional training. Your goal is to take part in a rigorous traineeship with a leading international broadcaster.

In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:

a native speaker of English who has acquired a basic working knowledge of German - i.e. through intensive German language courses - prior to the start of the traineeship.
a native speaker of German who is fluent in English (i.e. for live reporting)
a native speaker of another language that is part of DW's language services - especially Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, French, Russian or Spanish. You also need a good working knowledge of English and German.

Language is key here. Along with English and German, all applicants require a good working knowledge of at least one additional DW language.

Trainees earn a starting salary of EUR1,590 (US$2,014) per month and receive two raises over the course of the program. They also receive one month of vacation.

The deadline is Oct. 31. For more information, visit the official website
